Protecting furniture edges during shipping – tips needed
We've recently started importing flat-pack furniture from a supplier in China and distributing it to retailers across the UAE, and honestly the damage rate on some of these shipments is absolutely killing our profit margins. The corners and edges of the panels keep getting crushed or chipped during transit, even when we wrap everything in bubble wrap and use cardboard corner protectors that honestly seem like they're made from recycled tissue paper. I've been looking at more robust edge protection options and came across these heavy-duty paper-based protectors that look like they'd actually hold up to the rigors of freight handling. I'm thinking about switching to a paper edge board for our shipments, specifically for the heavier items like wardrobe panels and table tops that seem to take the most abuse. What I'm not sure about is whether these are rigid enough to withstand the pressure of strapping and shrink wrap without collapsing, because we've had issues with softer protectors just crushing under the tension of the pallet wrap. Also, are these cost-effective compared to plastic edge protectors? I'm trying to balance better protection with keeping our packaging costs under control, so any real-world experience from other furniture importers would be massively helpful.
